Abstract
Effective monitoring of plastic pollution requires coordination in data collection methods and management, across different locations and over a period of time to produce consistent and reliable data. The Guidebook for Common Methodologies for Assessment and Monitoring Pollution in the ASEAN region seeks to offer suitable approaches to support the ASEAN Member States in their efforts to address plastic pollution. Designed for researchers, environmental agencies and organizations responsible plastic monitoring, the Guidebook includes eight key indicators and seven methods for tracking plastic across different stages of its life.
The Guidebook development was supported by the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) and Imperial College London (ICL), through the Regional Implementation Support Unit (RISU) under the United Nations Office for Project Services (UNOPS), with technical support from the World Bank and input provided by ASEAN Member States and the ASEAN Secretariat.
