JANUARY 2026
Video Conference, 28 January 2026: The SEA-MaP Regional Project organized the Prototype Introduction, Second Stakeholder Consultation with the Project Steering Committee (PSC), and Second Coordination Meeting with Development Partners and Knowledge Platforms of the Regional Platform for Knowledge and Partnerships. The workstream supports the implementation of the ASEAN Regional Action Plan for Combating Marine Debris (RAP), particularly Action 8 “Strengthen ASEAN Regional Knowledge Network on Marine Plastics”, Action 10 “Coordinate Regional Training Programs on Plastics and Waste Management”, and Action 13 “Establish a Regional Platform for EPR Knowledge and Implementation Support”
The Consultation aimed to introduce a clickable prototype of the web platform and to gather feedback to further refine the Knowledge Management Framework, Partnerships Management Strategy, Strategic Roadmap, and Institutional Sustainability Strategy.
The Consultation comprised two main sessions: (i) an open session and a closed session. The open session started with a recap of the results from the First Consultation conducted via an online survey between September – October 2025, followed by A guided walk-through of the web platform prototype, including its Knowledge Hub, Partnerships, and Training components. The closed session focused on the presentation of proposed screening and approval workflows for knowledge products and partnerships and recommendations of future host of the platform.
Participants from ASEAN Member States, the ASEAN Secretariat, and development partners welcomed the platform’s potential to serve as a regional knowledge hub and partnership mechanism to strengthen collaboration on marine plastics and plastic waste management.
The inputs gathered will inform further refinements of the platform and related frameworks, with preparations underway for upcoming activities, including the full platform introduction and workshop series scheduled for May2026.
The event was facilitated by the Economic Research Institute for ASEAN and East Asia (ERIA) and the Institute for Global Environmental Strategies (IGES), in coordination with the SEA-MaP Project Management Unit (PMU).
