ASEAN convenes the 7th PSC Meeting of SEA-MaP to Review Project Progress

JUNE 2026

Videoconference, 9 June 2026: The 7th Meeting of the Project Steering Committee (PSC) of the Southeast Asia Regional Program on Combating Marine Plastics (SEA-MaP) was held via video conference, hosted by Myanmar. It was attended by PSC members from ASEAN Member States (AMS), the ASEAN Secretariat, the SEA-MaP Project Management Unit (PMU), and the Regional Implementation Support Unit (RISU), housed under the United Nations Office for Project Services (UNOPS) and the World Bank as an observer.

The Meeting served as an opportunity for the PSC to review progress made since the 6th PSC Meeting held in November 2025, consider key project activities and technical deliverables, and provide strategic guidance on the Project’s next steps to ensure continued progress towards achieving its objectives.

The Meeting welcomed the progress on the remaining technical deliverables and exchanged views on two of the key deliverables under SEA-MaP Regional Project namely, the Regional Platform for Knowledge and Partnerships and the Regional Platform for Innovation and Investments.

The Meeting encouraged the Project to maintain momentum as the Project work toward the completion of all the remaining activities and knowledge products, while continue supporting ASEAN in addressing marine plastic pollution and advancing circular economy approaches.

The SEA-MaP Regional Project is funded by the World Bank and contributes to the implementation of the ASEAN Regional Action Plan for Combating Marine Debris in the ASEAN Member States, which aims to reduce plastic consumption, increase recycling, and minimize leakages to prevent land- and sea-based marine plastic pollution.
